30-Day Small Steps to Health Challenge Day Seven: Move Every Day

Congratulations! You have made it to day seven, which means one week, of the Small Steps to Health Challenge!

Today’s small step is to start moving every day. It doesn’t have to be a full-blown workout if you are just getting started, but it needs to be more than what you are doing now. It is ok to start small - just start moving!

Why Move?

There are so many benefits to regular exercise. To list a few:

  • More mental clarity

  • Higher energy

  • Better heart health

  • Better mood

  • Less anxiety and depression

  • Healthy weight management

  • Stronger muscles and bones

If you think that sounds good, then challenge yourself to move every day!

Getting Started

Here are a few starting tips:

  • Go slowly and build up as you gain strength and endurance.

  • Choose something you enjoy and are likely to stick with. This might be swimming, walking, lifting weights, sprinting, dancing, hiking… Just find something you love and go for it!

  • Schedule your workout times so that you will make them a priority.

  • Start small - if you are already a really busy person, just start with ten minutes! Even a little bit is better than nothing, and if you do something like HIIT, you can get in a killer workout in just a few minutes!

  • Find a workout buddy if you enjoy that, or put on some good music to help you move!

  • Re-frame movement in your mind. Rather than thinking of it as a chore, think of it as something fun that you get to do.
